How to Pair a Stylus with a Meta Device

Instructions for pairing a stylus like the Logitech MX Ink with Meta devices enrolled via MHMS

If you're looking to pair a stylus (like the Logitech MX Ink) with your Meta headset, follow this step-by-step guide. Important: Pairing is currently only supported when the headset is in Individual Mode. Devices in Meta's Shared Mode do not expose the necessary pairing interface.

Pairing Instructions

  1. Enroll the Device in Individual Mode

    Before anything else, make sure your device is enrolled into Individual Mode in ManageXR. Stylus pairing is not possible in Shared Mode. To ensure your device is enrolled in Individual Mode, set your Default Enrollment Configuration to use Individual Mode.

    💡 Why this matters: Meta restricts access to certain in-headset settings in Shared Mode, including stylus pairing.

  2. Pair the Stylus in-Headset
    Once the device is in Individual Mode:

    🥽 On the headset:

    1. Put on the headset.

    2. Open the Settings menu.

    3. Navigate to DevicesStylus.

    4. Scroll to the bottom of the Stylus Settings page.

    5. Click Pair Stylus.

    ✍️ On the Stylus (MX Ink):

    1. Press and hold both the META and REAR buttons for 4 seconds.

    2. The stylus will enter pairing mode.

    3. Once paired, you will see a tracked model of the stylus on the screen.

    ✅ You can now use the FRONT and REAR buttons to interact with the Meta Quest interface.

  3. (Optional) Switch to Shared Mode

    If you're using Shared Mode in your deployment, you can now switch to the device to a ManageXR Configuration that uses a restricted kiosk experience (Custom Home, Kiosk App, Kiosk Video). The stylus will remain paired to the device after you switch to Shared Mode.


Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect a stylus in Shared Mode?

No. Stylus pairing requires access to system menus not available in Shared Mode. This is a Meta platform limitation and not something ManageXR can change.

I already enrolled my device in Shared Mode. What now?

Unfortunately, the only way to pair a stylus is to:

  1. Factory reset the device.

  2. Re-enroll it into Individual Mode.
    To ensure your device is enrolled in Individual Mode, set your Default Enrollment Configuration to use Individual Mode.

  3. Follow the steps above to pair the stylus.

After pairing, you can switch back to Shared Mode if needed.
