Understanding your WebXR browser options
All WebXR links open in a web browser. By default, devices use their built-in system browser (e.g., the native Quest web browser). Wolvic browser is an open-source browser built for XR and is a reliable way to launch WebXR links on Quest devices. Using Wolvic as your default browser will give you a more stable WebXR experience as Meta firmware changes. This feature is currently only available for Quest devices but may become available more broadly as Wolvic adds support for more device types.
Wolvic is an open-source, 3rd party web browser. Wolvic is not affiliated with ManageXR. The source code to Wolvic is made available to you under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL) and can be found on its github repository. The MPL has an FAQ section to help you understand it.
You can choose between three different WebXR browser options on Meta Quest devices:
Default Quest Browser | Use the default browser provided by the device manufacturer (Meta Quest Browser). |
Wolvic Browser (Standard) | Use Wolvic Browser as your default method for launching WebXR links. Selecting Wolvic Browser (Standard) will automatically install the Wolvic app on your device(s). |
Wolvic Browser (No Search) | Use Wolvic Browser without a search bar to prevent users from exploring other sites. Selecting Wolvic Browser (No Search) will automatically install the Wolvic app on your device(s). |
In Quest Firmware v55+, launching WebXR links using the native Meta Quest browser may intermittently cause device crashes and won't allow you to enter "VR Mode" on certain websites. To avoid these issues, we strongly recommend using Wolvic browser as your default method for launching WebXR links. Learn more
How to set your default WebXR browser on your configuration
Once you've decided which browser setting works best, there are two places you can set your default browser in your configuration:
In the WebXR Links section of your configuration
Select a configuration in your Configurations tab
Click WebXR Links
Choose the desired launching method
In the Device Settings section of your configuration
Select a configuration in your Configurations tab
Select Device Settings
Choose the desired launching method under Meta Devices Only
That's it! The next time devices assigned to this configuration sync with ManageXR, they will automatically download Wolvic and set it as the default browser option.
When ManageXR installs Wolvic, it will do so in the background, and you won't see the Wolvic app on your ManageXR Home Screen.
How to verify that Wolvic browser is installed on your devices
To check if Wolvic is installed and up-to-date on your device, head to your Devices page, click Current Configuration, and locate Wolvic under the ManageXR Apps section.
Wolvic will only download onto the device and appear under ManageXR Apps if the configuration uses Wolvic Browser (Standard) or Wolvic Browser (No Search). Otherwise, it will not be downloaded.
FAQs
I launched a YouTube video in Wolvic’s No Search mode, but I can still see the related videos on the side. How do I get rid of those?
I launched a YouTube video in Wolvic’s No Search mode, but I can still see the related videos on the side. How do I get rid of those?
Wolvic's No Search mode removes the YouTube search bar so users cannot actively search for other videos. However, this mode cannot remove related videos that show up on the sidebar of your video.
A workaround you can use to hide the videos from the sidebar is to utilize embedded links for your WebXR links. Here are the steps on how to modify a YouTube link to create an embedded link:
Replace watch?v= in the YouTubeURL with embed/. Take a look at this example with a hypothetical URL below.
original URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P149GyuOl31
modified URL: https://www.youtube.com/embed/P149GyuOl31
Navigate to VR content in the ManageXR console
Select WebXR Link
Enter the modified URL
Enter a title for the WebXR link and press Create Link
After this, this modified URL now exists as a WebXR link that can be deployed to a configuration.
