Overview

Kiosk Mode on ManageXR allows you to lock devices down into approved content and keep the experience focused for users. ManageXR supports the following kiosk device experience options on Meta Quest devices: Custom Home, Kiosk App, or Kiosk Video

We recently released an upgrade to kiosk mode on legacy Meta devices (devices enrolled via the ManageXR Device Setup Tool). With Meta firmware version 76, devices receive an improved version of kiosk mode that provides a more secure restricted kiosk experience. This new version of kiosk will make using the Custom Home or your Kiosk App feel smoother. This doc outlines the differences between the previous vs. new kiosk experience.

FAQs

How do you know the new version of kiosk mode is more secure?

The new version of kiosk mode works with the Meta operating system to kiosk devices. It uses the same Meta-provided kiosk method (OEMConfig application) that is used for devices enrolled via Meta horizon. This makes the experience feel smoother and more integrated. As noted above, this still does NOT use Meta Horizon device modes. So, the in-headset experience is now similar to that of devices enrolled via Meta Horizon, just without modes and mode-related settings.

What does the Exit Session button do on the Meta app pause menu?

The Quit / Exit Session button on the Meta app pause menu does not do anything on legacy Meta devices. It appears on the Meta app pause menu, but it is a no-op if users click on it. On devices enrolled via Meta Horizon managed services, it will exit the current Shared Mode session.

What does "Quit" do on the Meta app pause menu when using Kiosk App?

Pressing Quit on the Meta app pause menu does not Quit the application when it is the Kiosk App. Instead, it resumes the current app. If you do want to quit and re-start the kiosk app, you need to reboot the device. If you would like a way to restart the current app without rebooting the device, reach out to support@managexr.com.

Can I keep my devices on the earlier version of Kiosk?

If your devices have not already upgraded to firmware v76 and you wish to test the changes before applying them to your fleet, you can:

  • Postpone firmware updates - Keep devices on the earlier version of Kiosk temporarily by postponing firmware updates. Apply this policy to most of your devices except for the subset you are using to test the new version of kiosk with.

  • Disable firmware updates - If you require the shortcut menu, you can keep your devices on the earlier version of Kiosk permanently by disabling firmware updates. However, we recommend using the latest version for the smoothest best experience.

How do I check what firmware my device is on?

You can view your device firmware from the device list.To identify devices on firmware v76 and above, type "76." into the device list filter bar:

You can also view your device firmware version from the device page:
